I think it would be appropriate as how Bob has his trip report upcoming, so I will deliver something different in this review; a combo of pre-show thoughts and my trip report, no, not to SNL, but the Snowball!
Trip report-
Well, after the pathetic Jeter show last week, I was in much delight over this weeks show, except for two things; 1) my republican (shudder), Devs fan (sigh), and Braves supporter (disgust) friend Bob Barron will be seeing the show live coughthanksforaskingmecough and 2) I will miss THE ENTIRE LIVE BROADCAST because my girlfriend is dragging me to the Snowball Dance, but even though I'll be attending this, maybe it will pay off after *wink*. I can't believe this; SNL RARELY has a good musical guest like Jagger and it has to be on the week I can't see it. But if Mr. Barron had me go with him to see the show, I wouldn't be saying this, now would I? The dance was okay, she really did a lot of grinding with me, slow dancing was fun (insert smile face), and after, well, I guess I'll tell you sometime later if you care, but it was fun. Thanks Bill (Clinton)!
Now that you all have read my fascinating report, on to my review!
[COLD OPENING] Dubya and his Fantastic (EXTREME SARCASM) Team
WOW. I guess SNL is really hurting for impressionists; Darrell is playing Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Gore in one sketch! Wheew! It was about time they brought Gore back (let me make one quick plug if I may; AL GORE IN 2004). Again, I hate Maya, and when Bush said that this should have been handled 10 years ago and said thanks dad, that was priceless!
RATING: 9/10
[MONOLOGUE] Hugh "Ralph" Jackman
Well, another singing monologue. I thought those were for Walken?! Decent monologue, just singing, but well written.
RATING: 7/10
[COMMERCIAL] Loose Bear
They keep bringing back these types of commercials that were spin-offs from a few years back, this one being Oops I crapped my pants, in which CC plays this for every 98-99 season episode. This one was funny, and Ana was hilarious.
RATING: 7/10
[SKETCH] Jarrett's Room
It took me awhile to get the jist of this sketch, but now I really enjoy them, this one NO exception. Horatio coming out with the "never ending bong" was great, just like him, and all was well written. Seth's part was good, as was Hugh's and Jeff is finally getting some airtime. Best one yet.
RATING: 9/10
[SKETCH] Robert Goulet Christmas Special
I LOVE when Ferrell does his impression and makes fun of him, almost as much as his Neil Diamond from JG in 99. This was different in which he wasn't singing with rap artists, but still VERY funny.
RATING: 8/10
[SKETCH] Holiday Photos
This was also great; JACKMAN PLAYING A GAY!?!? The part were they all made fun of Rachel was the best of the sketch. Again, another good sketch.
RATING: 7/10
[MUSIC] Mick Jagger
HOLY SHIT!! MICK JAGGERS BACK. This was excellent live and I really got into it just watching it at home. BEST MG in years.
RATING: 10/10
[WEEKEND UPDATE] With Jimmy Fallon and Tina "Hooker" Fey
Which once again proves my theory; Americans love Weekend Update. Damn, I miss Norm. Again, by far another great update, ALL jokes were funny especially the Rivera ones, and CK did another terrible re-enactment. Not bad. Jeff gets more airtime in drag, this was ok, but another shinning update.
RATING: 9.5/10
[SKETCH] Hello Dolly
I have no damn idea why they keep bringing this back; I hate them. The only funny part that caught my attention before I fell asleep was the Jist Discovering Doll. That was the only funny part. Ever notice how they have foreign actors like Jackman in Hello Dolly, and had Alan Cumming in one as well? Hmmmm….
RATING: 5/10
[SKETCH] Mick Jagger in the Mirror
Jimmy did a good impression. This seriously rocked majorly and Jagger is just all around awesome. GREAT SKETCH!
RATING: 9/10
[SKETCH] Superman
This really wasn't funny, and I got lost. Didn't make a whole lot of sense.
RATING: 4/10
[MUSIC] Mick Jagger
THIS MAN ROCKS
[SKETCH] Versace
Ahh, seems as Maya has found another re-occurring sketch (sigh). This was ok.
RATING: 3/10
[SKETCH] Kangaroo Christmas
WTF is this doing at the end!?!?! I shat my pants over this, just all the fighting and stuff. Good sketch!
RATING: 8.5/10
[GOODNIGHTS] Goodbyes
We almost made it!
SKETCH OF THE NIGHT: Jarrett's Room (This was very hard to decide)
QUOTE OF THE NIGHT: George "Loser" Dubya making a comment about the current U.S. situation: "I've called this meeting because with the campaign in Afghanistan winding down, the time is fast approaching when we'll have to deal with Saddam Hussein to finish a job that should've finished 10 years ago-thanks dad!"
OVERALL EPISODE RATING: 74/100
Well, I was very happy with this show, not many reoccurring sketches, at least ones I like, but a very well done show. I'm even more looking forward to Ellen next week, as a comedian hosts, and hoping to score with Amy soon
Guess what folks, that's the news and I am outta here…
