Sports review-
Yea, Baby! 2 for 2 last week, and I called the upset! I am the man, even more than Bob, who by the way, didn't get #3. Now, even though I won all last Sunday's games, the two teams I've been calling to be in New Orleans on Feb 3 will not be there, the Raiders and Bears. Sigh. Now everyone can stuff it in my face. As for who will make it to Feb 3rd now, my picks will now be St. Louis and as much as it pains me to say this, Philadelphia, winner of course St. Louis. In snowy Foxboro yesterday, Walt Coleman needs to be shot; after he reviewed the damn play and overruled the fumble call with 1:30 left to go. This sucked ass! Who the hell couldn't tell it was a fumble!? And, what pains me the most is that Rich Gannon, AFC TOP RATED PASSER!!, went for 159 yards and didn't win the game. We can only hope for next year.
TODAY'S PICKS---
Ravens at Steelers - An upset 2 weeks in a row!? Yes! RAVENS by 3 ½
Green Bay at Rams - RAMS by 12
Yes, I know the Ravens can do it again! Now, as for coach of the year, Dick Jauron got honors. I totally agree with the voting. He turned a crappy team around and brought them far this season. Bill Belichick in a close second, also who deserves it for bringing the Pats outta the basement this season.
Rangers, quiet this week, still ahead of the Devs though! Lindros trade is complete, damnit! Who saw Artem Chubarov and Jovanovski score within 23 seconds last night?! That was cool. Knicks, all hope is given up now. Yankees, a quiet week.
Mailbag - queue Paul Shaffer and that cool song he sings
This one comes from someone, in another short edition of the Mailbag, from Alex Mark-Nardacci;
Dear Nick, Just wanted to pass along to you that I think your reviews are well constructed, and I find them funny each week, especially your SNL mailbag. I have to agree, you have good taste when it comes to women, and your sports teams are all right on the top. I've always wanted to be on SNL too, and I think its one of the best t.v shows on the air right now. I've noticed other peoples reviews, and yours stands out, probably for content, and you mention a guy named Bob in your reviews a lot, who is that? Sincerely, Mark
Well, Mark, thank you for your kind words about my reviews, glad to know someone likes em. I can tell your probably a DEMOCRAT like me, so that makes you even cooler. As for the odd man in my reviews, that's my friend Bob Barron, Republican, Leafs fan, Yankee opposed, and Devs fan (yuck), who disagrees with me about many issues, but we also agree on many as well, such as Amy is 100x hotter than Tina, and that wrestling is AWESOME!!, which I agree with Paul too. Bob is, well, an odd character.
Maybe Tim will have a cool review this week…???
I'm going to see The Bosstones on Feb 1 at Northern Lights!! Such a good band! I'll probably have a concert review next review I post. I'm trying to get tix close to the stage because they sound awesome!
http://www.fallonfey.com - updated with new videos and a really cool site.
Coming in to this show, I was wicked excited, Jack Black is cool, and after last weeks show, I wanted a good one. Now, I thought there might be a lot of drug related sketches because I know Black is like that, but nonetheless I was hoping. Lets find out…
[COLD OPENING] The President chokes on a pretzel and lives to talk about it
I kept saying all week, if Ferrell comes back they have to do this in the cold opening. Ferrell whining like a complete jackass was hilarious, and then Dick coming out from behind the couch with a muscle shirt making it seem like he did nothing. This really proves a point though, that Cheney does control every aspect in the White House. Damn dirty republicans think they can just pay everybody off and it's sick! Live From New York, It's Jimmy Fallon?! Huh? The streak ends, well technically, because Tracy said it last year in the Lopez episode, but I wonder why he said it anyway? Good opening…
RATING: 9/10
[MONOLOGUE] Jack Black
This guy really reminds me of John Belushi, just wild and crazy, which makes him quite the cool guy. Tenacious D was back! Sweet!
RATING: 9/10
[COMMERCIAL] The Lexus January Event to buy a Bow.
It took me a second to figure this out, but good stuff. The big ass bows never make any sense, and good for SNL to poke fun at it, especially by creating a store for bows. Good job.
RATING: 7/10
[SKETCH] Russell Putnam
This skit was cool, and were the dudes pretending to be high or were they really high?! Hmmm. I bet Horatio wasn't acting. I thought this was a cool sketch.
RATING: 7.5/10
[SKETCH] Tales of Valour
Another one of those narrative story sketches; I like these. Jack looked cool as the monster. Funny how the monster and Jimmy like compromised for things, and how he was giving his advice, like the virgins suck and the whores are better, he may have a point. Well, anyway, good. "These pictures are tastefully erotic but I can't show them on t.v. so I must call my friend Tracy over here to see them." "HILARIOUS!" Ahh, I love when Tracy does that.
RATING: 8.5/10
[SKETCH] The Lovahs
Ahh, no one seems to like these characters, but I do. The hot-tub pronunciations are hilarious, partly why I like these sketches. I was gonna freggin shit my pants when they started to have a three way. Hilarious. Good sketch!
RATING: 9/10
[COMMERCIAL] Friends Promotion
A lot of people didn't get this, but the punchline didn't come till the very end when voiceover said, "Were running out of combinations (referring to how each person on friends has fallen in love with one another sometime during the show)." I found this funny.
RATING: 6.5/10
[SKETCH] Now 1: Classic Singing
A good sketch to use impressions, which all were done GREAT! Jeff did a good Kevin Spacey, but I'm still anxious to see his Letterman one. The "Fabulous Big (bleep)" aka Al Roker was funny. Another good sketch!
RATING: 8.5/10
[SKETCH] Dueling Bassists
This was a really cool sketch, just the premise of them arguing over this was funny. The burning down the place at the end was funny too. I laughed all through the sketch…
RATING: 9/10
[WEEKEND UPDATE] With Jimmy Fallon and Tina Fey
As many of you know, 1 year ago was quite possibly the worst update with Tina and Jimmy (Host: Mena Suvari), maybe BBT was worse but it was close. I noticed now that the January updates have been a bit weak, but return in February, so that's good at least. Tina's rants rock! This was no exception. Totally funny. Dell commercial was funny. This was a good update otherwise, I really like Kattan's parts, and the Jennifer Aniston joke was cool too. I have an opinion was back, and it improved a bit, Tenacious D came back and sang- good stuff here. Most of the jokes were cool, commentaries cool too.
RATING: 9/10
[MUSIC] The Strokes
Wow. Impressed. Good Song.
RATING: 9/10
[SKETCH] HBO Presents: America Undercover
I liked the JG one, and I liked this one too. Dean had to do this last time and I feel wicked bad because he had to feel up Kattan while those other bastards got to make out with Amy. Damnit. Black was cool in this, and they should do more of these.
RATING: 8.5/10
[SKETCH] Happy Birthday
Holy shit! This was hilarious!! Jack was soooooooo good in this sketch. Weird in a funny way.
RATING: 9.5/10
[COMMERCIAL] My Big Thick Novel, by Jack Handey
Hey, I really liked last weeks one, this was good too I guess.
RATING: 7/10
[MUSIC] The Strokes
Hey, another good song. They did well tonight.
SKETCH OF THE NIGHT: Happy Birthday
PLAYER OF THE NIGHT: Jimmy Fallon (I know, I don't even like him)
QUOTE OF THE NIGHT: Jimmy Fallon On Weekend Update, "Big news in today's New England vs. Oakland game, as President Bush successfully ate a Pringle."
OVERALL EPISODE RATING: 73/100
I was expecting much and I was VERY satisfied. A lot of music sketches tonight, I didn't care at all because I like them, and Black was good in every sketch. SNL did a good job of host lineup. We saw more of Jeff tonight, Will is back, and the show rocked. Good work folks, next time Britney Spears, hmm maybe it'll be good.
Guess what folks, that's the news and I am outta here…
