Hugh Jackman / Mick Jagger

I was looking forward to this show because I was fairly disappointed with last week's show, and I figured this would be better for two reasons. One, it was being hosted by an actor, and two, the musical guest isn't a rapper. I'd have to wait and see what the episode had in store.

[ COLD OPENING ] Al Gore Phone Call

Hard to believe SNL worked Gore into a sketch...haha. As usual, Darrell's Gore was dead on and hilarious. Although the entire scenario didn't make much sense, this opening was extremely funny, and was a great way to start off the show.

RATING : 9/10

[ MONOLOGUE ] Hugh Jackman

If there's one thing I like to see a host do in a monologue, it's adlibbing. "Ahh for you, it's getting drunk and throwing up!" That was great. However, the singing at the end was ridiculous and a waste of time. So overall, an average monologue.

RATING : 7/10

[ COMMERCIAL ] Loose Bear

Ahh, sure is nice to see a new commercial! Although I'm sure I'll see it MANY more times before the season's out. A very clever idea, and it was played out nicely. "I just had the crap scared out of me...sure wish I was near a toilet!" One of the best commercials of the year.

RATING : 8/10

[ SKETCH ] Jarret's Room

I know people will disagree with me on this one, but I'm beginning to find these sketches very irritating. Sure, Horatio's Gobi character is hilarious, but you can only take so much. The DJ again was pointless, and it used the same joke as last sketch. "You're from New Jersey!". However, the whole segment with Hugh coming in, and with Jeff shaving his back and smelling underwear, I did get a few chuckles out of this one. Still, I don't think this deserves to start off the show.

RATING : 6.5/10

[ SKETCH ] Robert Goulet All Holiday Special

I love Will's Goulet character! I especially love when he's singing, and then when he doesn't know the lyrics, he just starts "da ba dee a da ba doo"ing... The Sherlock Holmes bit was funny in it's own way, and it's always classic when somebody falls off a roof and then starts screaming. I really enjoyed this sketch.

RATING : 8.5/10

[ SKETCH ] Sears Photography

When I saw Hugh and Seth come in as the gays, I figured the sketch would be REALLY funny. But I was very disappointed. I think they wasted a really good idea. I just found the characters annoying and sometimes hard to understand.

RATING : 4.5/10

[ MUSIC ] Mick Jagger

Well, I'm not a big fan, however, it's better than rap.

[ WEEKEND UPDATE ] With Jimmy Fallon & Tina Fey

This was easily one of the best Updates of the season! There were three jokes that really stood out as hilarious. 1. "The Japan Roller Coaster; only 8 people are tall enough to ride"   2. "Referring to women in middle east; who'd she have to show her ankles to to get THAT job?"   3. "The Seigfried and Roy/Tiger Viagra joke". I also enjoyed the Drunk Girl segment, as long as it doesn't become a recurring character. It's one of those things that's funny the first time, and that's it. Anyway, the entire update was much better than typical, and I was quite impressed. This really helped the show.

RATING : 9.5/10

[ SKETCH ] Hello Dolly

I can't believe they still have this sketch. This was REALLY stupid except for the "Jist Discoverin" doll, which was pretty damn funny. Other than that, this sketch really lacked in the jokes department. A strong disappointment.

RATING : 5/10

[ SKETCH ] Mick Jagger in the Mirror

This was actually quite amusing to watch! It's always funny when Jimmy makes fun of people to their face. I really like the "pointing the fingers" thing, and also Jimmy's rooster dance. So this sketch was funny in that sense, but not all that laugh-out-loud funny. Not bad however.

RATING : 6.5/10

[ SKETCH ] Superman

I didn't really catch the drift of this until the mother came on. And even then it wasn't that funny. And to top it all off, the sketch had a very abrupt ending which made very little sense. This sketch was just plain dumb.

RATING : 2/10

[ MUSIC ] Mick Jagger

Same as I mentioned before; better than rap.

[ SKETCH ] Donatella Versace

This was RIDICULOUS. Wait, there was ONE funny part. When Mick and Maya were arguing about who's the bitch "well my bitch mirror was facing your bitch mirror, so that makes your bitch times infinity!" Well, good for a chuckle I suppose but that's it. Hopefully they stop this dumb recurring sketch. It's very...how should I put this....Molly Shannon-ish.

RATING : 1.5/10

[ SKETCH ] Australian Christmas Kangaroo

No matter how much it happens, some guy fighting a guy in an animal costume will ALWAYS be funny. I was really caught off guard when Will lost the fight and then...well...got sodomized. But this was extremely funny. I have no idea why this ended up at the end of the show! Best sketch of the night!

RATING : 9/10

   [ OVERALL RATING ] 65 / 100

   [ BEST SKETCH ] Australian Christmas Kangaroo ( 9 )

[ BEST QUOTE ] "Now, on Christmas morning, all the Australian boys and girls might not get toys, but they're spared the horror of watching a giant marsupial take their old man to 'brown town'." - Hugh Jackman as a Narrator, talking about the death of the Sodomizing Kangaroo.

[ POINTS OF INTEREST ] Darrell plays three different characters in the cold opening. There was no Smigel cartoon, even though the opening claimed there would be.

Overall, I was disappointed with this show. Maybe it's because my expectations were too high. There were some pretty good sketches in this show, it's just that there were so many bad ones that it brought the rating, and overall appeal, down so much. Next week's episode is hosted by Ellen DeGeneres. She can be funny, as long as she doesn't do her little "guess what, I'm gay" thing.
