Billy Bob Thornton / Creed

I've been waiting for this night for years now. I've been waiting and waiting for my favorite band, Creed, to perform, and now they're finally going to. I don't know anything about Billy Bob Thornton, other than the fact that he's married to Angelina Jolie, so this should be interesting.

[ COLD OPENING ] C-SPAN Donald Rumsfeld

Darrell's Rumsfeld impression is even better this week. I think the past few episodes have just been used to work on the impression, but now it truly shines. I loved the press questions, especially Seth's first one, asking if the war on terrorism was "fair". I find it funny how much Will looked like George W., even though they tried their best to not make him look like him. Rumsfeld's ridiculous responses were great. An overall great way to start of this show.

RATING : 8.5/10

[ MONOLOGUE ] Billy Bob Thornton

Well if I had any idea whatsoever what "sling blade" was, I'd probably enjoy this a lot, but I was completely lost. It was funny, however, when Billy Bob mistook Amy's "real voice" for another sling blade impression.

RATING : 6/10

[ SKETCH ] Gay Indians and Pilgrims

Billy Bob was really funny as the gay Indian. Chris's line, "I with him, but I'm not with him, with him" was pretty funny. The entire corn dialogue was just disturbing. I found it hard to believe they started the show with this, but maybe they're just getting warmed up.

RATING : 6/10

[ COMMERCIAL ] e.p.t. Pregnancy Test

See my John Goodman review...

[ SKETCH ] Nick Burns Your Company's Computer Guy

Great to see Nick Burns back! I loved all these sketches last season. A very clever idea to bring Billy Bob in as Nick's father, and I especially liked the ending when his dad told him to MOVE! Good to see Jeff in another sketch, but his character was kinda dull. Overall though, a very good and funny sketch!

RATING : 9/10

[ SKETCH ] Brian Fellow's Safari Planet

I'm surprised they brought this character back. It seemed to flop when they tried it out last season. This time around though it seemed to work. Brian mistaking the miniature horse for a dog, and accusing the goat of having "devil-eyes" was extremely funny. Even though Tracy doesn't get much airtime, I wouldn't push it and show this sketch too often. I can see it becoming very un-funny, very fast. But this one was good, and that's all that matters.

RATING : 8/10

[ SKETCH ] Inside The Actor's Studio

I laughed my ass off through the entire sketch. Will's James Lipton impression gets funnier every time they do it. His exaggerated laughter, his outbursts of French, and his ridiculous comments added to this sketch in a positive way. I especially like when he described Billy Bob's Childhood : "When you were 5, you skinned your knee; when you were 11, you bought a hat." And, his opening comment was hilarious too : "If I had the choice of interviewing our next guest, or getting into my homemade time machine, going back to the 16th century, and interviewing William Shakespeare himself, I would tell him to go screw himself!" The entire street sequence was pretty cool, but seemed out of place. Lipton's arm in a sling at the end was classic too. This was a great sketch!

RATING : 9.5/10

[ SKETCH ] Martha Stewart Living

This may well be the funniest Martha Stewart segment I've ever seen on the show. I nearly crapped my pants when she mentioned the "50 pound bald eagle", and then pulls it out from under the counter and places it in view. Her embroidered napkins and candied yams were funny too. A very funny segment!

RATING : 9/10

[ SKETCH ] Kandahar Party

This sketch was very similar to the Gay-Dar sketch from the John Goodman episode, but not as funny. In fact, the only thing really funny about this is that the people were singing about some Afghan city. Tracy's little speech was just stupid. This is definitely something I'd expect to see at the very end of the show...sort of like how they ended the last episode with "Fiesta Politica".

RATING : 6/10

[ WEEKEND UPDATE ] With Jimmy Fallon & Tina Fey

Wow. What a disappointment! This was easily the worst Weekend Update since Tina and Jimmy took over at the start of last year. There were no real great jokes, but there were several news stories that they could have wrote better jokes for, but they came up with very lame ones, as if it was only written at the last minute. Some of the jokes were funny, but I think the crowd was kinda slow on some of them. The entire Harry Potter thing was stupid and went on for way too long. I'm expecting much more next episode!

RATING : 7/10

[ MUSIC ] Creed

Finally! It's about time! It's over an hour into the show! This is their first single from their new CD, "My Sacrifice". This song sounded great live, and it was an amazing performance. I was VERY impressed. If I rated the musical guests, this would be a 10!

[ SKETCH ] The Fenced In Area

What can I say... This was a good idea, and it was kinda funny, but I think if more time was spent writing it, it could have been twice as good. However, its the end of the show, so it was impressive to see a fairly good sketch here.

RATING : 6.5/10

[ MUSIC ] Creed

This is their opening track from the brand new album, this song's called "Bullets". It sounded really good live, and was a great energetic song to get the crowd going! Now that I've heard the full album though, I could think of several other songs that they could have played instead that may have been better. Either way, it was a real thrill to see my favorite band on SNL.

[ NOVEL ] My Big Thick Novel By Jack Handey

"...I had even grown tired of The Flannigans" Er...right. This was...different.

RATING : 2/5*

   [ OVERALL RATING ] 76 / 100

   [ BEST SKETCH ] Inside The Actors Studio ( 9.5 )

[ BEST QUOTE ] "For example, instead of my usual roast turkey, I've prepared a juicy, 50-pound bald eagle." - Ana Gasteyer as Martha Stewart.

[ POINTS OF INTEREST ] SNL has already begun to repeat their commercials. Weekend Update was extremely lackluster. Creed performed twice, but their first performance wasn't until after an hour into the show.

Best episode of the season? Clearly. It certainly appears that season 27 is certainly off to a better start than last year. Now, we're looking at another week off, before three live shows in a row. Should be exciting!
