Britney Spears

I was definitely looking forward to this episode, but I must say that my expectations really weren't that high, because she really wasn't that great the last time she hosted. But I've been proved wrong in the past, so maybe that will happen again today.

[ COLD OPENING ] Mormons on the Ski Hill

Well I'd be pretty disappointed if the entire show went by without the mention of Mormons. This sketch was very clever, and it was great to see Akroyd again. Both Dan and Will played the part of the Mormons very well, and Amy was funny as the skier too. This was a funny way to start the show!

RATING : 8/10

[ MONOLOGUE ] Britney Spears

When she first walked out, I was wondering why she wasn't looking at the camera, but then I nearly crapped my pants when I saw that it was Chris Kattan. This was, in my opinion, the best monologue of the year. So far, at least. This was great when Chris did it to Ricky Martin, and it fit in well here too. And the Justin Timberlake cameo worked well too. "Kattan! You gotta stop doin that!" I was definitely pleasantly surprised by this monologue, but I still don't think it tops the previous Britney monologue, with the lip-synching and fake breasts.

RATING : 9/10

[ COMMERCIAL ] Loose Bear

See my Hugh Jackman review...

[ SKETCH ] Brian Fellow's Safari Planet

When they first started with this sketch, I thought it was a complete flop, but now I have the complete opposite opinion. I now find Tracy's character to be extremely hilarious! It's difficult not to laugh when he accuses a goat of having "devil-eyes" and such. This sketch was one of the best in it's short history. The hallucination of the rabbit cutting it's fur was great. I really enjoyed this sketch.

RATING : 9/10

[ SKETCH ] Inside Barbie's Dreamhouse

Hmm, well this seems to be going downhill now. I must say that I didn't really like this sketch. Some parts were funny, especially Kattan as Ken, but other than that, I didn't get many laughs out of this.

RATING : 5/10

[ SKETCH ] Jarret's Room

Well, I'm beginning to like this sketch more, but I still don't see what all the hype is about. Pretty much the same jokes over and over, but at least this time around they changed how they told them. The part where they switched over to Jeff's character in the bedroom with the Kurt Warner poster was funny, yet disturbing at the same time. Not too bad, but there's been better.

RATING : 7/10

[ SKETCH ] Camp X-Ray

I was clueless until the logo for "Camp X-Ray" came up, then I was too busy laughing to think of much else. Darrell's Cheney was hilarious, along with the prisoner testimonies. This was very well written, one of those short sketches which are funny in their own way. I enjoyed it.

RATING : 7/10

[ SKETCH ] Martha Stewart

One segment that's really improved this year are the Martha Stewart sketches. The last one was amazing, and this one lived up to all my expectations. A sketch that can get me laughing like this is all good. Her lines about the NASCAR drivers and corndogs were great, along with her getting Target to call her at her home. This was one of those sketches that's just rapid fire jokes. I loved it.

RATING : 9.5/10

[ MUSIC ] Britney Spears

If the cow was to die, this would be the tune that it would die on.

[ WEEKEND UPDATE ] With Jimmy Fallon & Tina Fey

They got this started off well with the Mike Tyson joke, which had me laughing the hardest I have in awhile. Then the Christina Aguilera joke came up and that was it. I thought I would burst I was laughing so hard. Darrell's Geraldo was funny, especially when he was talking about having "Osama in a headlock". To top this Weekend Update off though, Jimmy sang his three songs for the Winter Olympics, which is one of my all-time favorite Weekend Update segments. All the songs were great. I didn't recognize the second tune, but it was funny nonetheless. In my opinion, this deserves the perfect '10'. The first one of this season.

RATING : 10/10

[ SKETCH ] Astronaut Jones : Destination Moon

I was doubtful when the opening sequence came on, but then as soon as Tracy got on there and started agreeing to absolutely everything Britney said, and then made "the comment", I was laughing my ass off. I completely lost it though when the credits came up, and the whole thing was written by Tracy Morgan. It was just one of those things that I found funny, and I don't know why. Regardless, it had me rolling during the entire commercial break, so I was very impressed by this.

RATING : 9.5/10

[ SKETCH ] Gemini's Twin

Well this sketch was okay I suppose. I figured this would be one sketch they wouldn't have on tonight because of Ana's pregnancy, but that didn't seem to stop them. Will was hilarious as the producer, but the rest of the sketch wasn't that great.

RATING : 5.5/10

[ SKETCH ] Channel 9 News

This is one of those sketches which is just filler, but it had it's funny points. Will's comments about the person who has to play the tape were funny. "Can't somebody just push play? What? No? It's a union thing? oh okay..." I enjoyed this to a certain extent, but it wasn't anything too spectacular.

RATING : 7/10

[ MUSIC ] Britney Spears

This was the first time that I can remember that a musical guest had to lip synch. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. This is supposed to be a live show, right?!?

[ SKETCH ] The Leather Man

Hopefully they don't turn something like this into a recurring sketch, because it really wasn't that funny. It wasn't bad, but not great either. Horatio's character was probably the funniest, especially when he was...um...in the dressing stall. The sound effects throughout the sketch were amusing. It was also good to see Akroyd in another sketch. He's awesome. Not a bad way to end the show I guess...

RATING : 5.5/10

   [ OVERALL RATING ] 77 / 100

   [ BEST SKETCH ] Martha Stewart ( 9.5 )

[ BEST QUOTE ] "...because they are the only items in the store without pictures of NASCAR drivers on them." - Ana Gasteyer as Martha Stewart

[ POINTS OF INTEREST ] Dan Akroyd makes his second guest starring role this season, appearing the the first and last sketches of the evening. The second musical performance was not sung live.

Well I was completely shocked at the final rating of this show. Best of the year! Well, by a squeeze! The show was pretty average until the Martha Stewart sketch, where we had a 9.5, and 10, and then another 9.5, which brought the rating for this episode up a lot! Well, now we have a month off for the Olympics, then we'll be back live with Jonny Moseley as a host.
