I thought this show would top the season off. I was hoping that with two weeks off that the writers would get some good material to use, and this show would be hilarious. I also knew that U2 would be kickass musical guests.
[COLD OPENING] Al Gore Speaks to the Nation
Typical SNL, starting the show off with a Darrell Hammond impression, and of course, his best one, Al Gore. I found this extremely funny, and I loved how Gore talked about how it was best for the country, and how the Florida Supreme Court was trying to keep the country's leader a mystery. A great way to start off the show!
RATING : 9/10
[MONOLOGUE] Val Kilmer
Well, I suppose this was better than most monologues...I thought it was good how something different happened, rather then the usual stand up routine, or the questions from the audience. I loved how Tracy "sells weed to the audience"...pure gold! Also Parnell getting pissed at Val Kilmer was hilarious!
RATING : 7/10
[COMMERCIAL] Wade Blasingame ESQ. : Canine Attorney
Holy crap, this was the funniest commercial of the season! Parnell was the perfect character to start humping somebody at the front door in a Speedo! Will was pretty funny as Wade, and Morgan was hilarious as the guy who lost, but "for fifty bucks, Wade took care of the dog personally". I think it's great that they can come up with commercials like this!
RATING : 9/10
[SKETCH] VH1 Behind The Music : Rock and Roll Heaven
This was fairly decent...my favorite part was Jimmy Fallon as Buddy Holly...he was perfect! And Will was extremely funny as Jesus Christ. "I saw these guys, and I was like, OH MY DAD!" A pretty good first sketch...
RATING : 6.5/10
[SKETCH] Palm Beach
...when your future seems unclear, you MUST be in Palm Beach! LOL! This was easily the funniest sketch of the night! Ana makes a real good Katherine Harris, and Val Kilmer was a decent Jeb Bush. The best part of this sketch was at the end when George W. starting playing with the ball of yarn. HILARIOUS!!
RATING : 9.5/10
[SKETCH] Veronica and Co.
Swell, I figured they'd follow a great sketch by a piece-of-crap one, and who better to star in it, but MOLLY SHANNON! Christ even her impressions are the same, annoying, repetitive sayings. Parnell as the robot from Times Square was the only thing slightly humorous about this.
RATING : 3/10
[MUSIC] U2 Performs "Beautiful Day"
This song was pretty good live! U2 really rocked the stage, easily the best act of the season. The crowd was really into it too!
[WEEKEND UPDATE] With Tina Fey & Jimmy Fallon
Once again, Weekend Update satisfies! The Jimmy Fallon as a complete dumbass thing is getting a bit old now though... Hammond and Minor as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton were great! The middle savior of the show!
RATING : 9/10
[SKETCH] Iceman : The Later Years
I was expecting the Top Gun sketch next...this was a bit short, and kinda pointless. The only thing funny about this sketch was Parnell's and Ferrell's sarcasm. It was also funny when Kilmer came on, removed his sunglass, only to reveal another pair of sunglasses.
RATING : 4.5/10
[SKETCH] Season's Greetings from Saturday Night Live
I'm still a bit confused from this sketch...was there a point to it? Heh, either way, Sanz singing was really funny, and Tracy Morgan doing nothing was cool too, just to get him in the show. Not sure why this got such high a rating though!...
RATING : 6/10
[MUSIC] U2 performs "Elevation"
Wow, the really got the audience into this one! Great job, you guys were the best of the season!
[SKETCH] Annoying Voice Lady
Will had the right idea....leave before you stab yourself in the face. Why is Molly still on the show?!? It was a bit funny how Will was getting pissed off though...
RATING : 2.5/10
[SKETCH] Burt Bacharach
This sketch had no point to it, except to see Will Ferrell and Chris Parnell start screaming like 3 year olds...pretty stupid, but like I've said before, what do you expect at the end of the show?
RATING : 2.5/10
[COMMERCIAL] Corn Chip Nail Tips
Sketch of the night : Palm Beach
Quote of the night : Ana Gasteyer as Katherine Harris "Al! I thought you were dead..." Darrell Hammond as Al Gore replies, "I'm Al Gore, I just appear that way."
OVERALL EPISODE RATING : 62/100
Well, I had high hopes, and after watching the show, I realized it was a pretty good all around show. The musical guest was great, but the average that I worked out was lower than I expected. Either way, there's room for improvement. I'm not expecting much from Lucy Liu, but for the love of god, BRING BACK CELEBRITY JEOPARDY!!!
