I honestly wasn't expecting much from this episode. I didn't think that Charlize Theron would make a good host, but Paul Simon would be an excellent guest, and maybe he'd be used in some of the sketches. I guess I'd just have to wait and see.
[COLD OPENING] A Glimpse of our Possible Future : George W. Bush
Haha I thought this would be a good idea, and I have to admit, it was actually quite humorous. I loved it when Bush held up the map of the United States since he'd been president. Texas as the USSR was hilarious. A bit too short though...
RATING : 8/10
[MONOLOGUE] Charlize Theron
You can't expect much of a monologue unless a comedian is hosting. Oh well, this was still pretty funny. I loved how Tracy couldn't vote because he was convicted of a felony. Decent...
RATING : 6/10
[SKETCH] MTV T R L : Gemini's Twin
Jimmy Fallon as Carson Daly was pretty good, but his jokes were getting old fast. I thought that Gasteyer, Rudolph, and Theron did a good job as a girl group. They were just like Destiny's Child, who I severely dislike. I didn't think that this sketch was that funny...
RATING : 5.5/10
[SKETCH] A Glimpse of our Possible Future : Al Gore
I expected this to be much better than it actually was. The part with Clinton coming in was funny, but too bad that Hammond had to play both Gore and Clinton, otherwise they wouldn't have had to use the crappy editing. The supercomputer behind Gore was a nice touch! And a pop-quiz for the entire nation...brilliant!
RATING : 7/10
[SKETCH] Blair Witch 2 : Goth Talk
I hate Goth Talk. I hated Blair Witch. I hated this sketch. However, Chris Kattan was funny as usual as Azreal Abyss. I loved how he said "yes" after the question Theron asked Shannon...that brought the rating up a bit.
RATING : 4.5/10
[CARTOON] The All-New Adventures of Mr. T
I got a few chuckles from this. I loved how Mr. T kept interrupting his sentences with catch phrases "Stay in School" and "Drink Milk". I thought it was funny how he ended up endorsing tampons.
RATING : 6/10
[SKETCH] Marilyn Munroe and Joe DiMaggio
This was just stupid. I guess it was an excuse to show-off the host again.
RATING : 3/10
[MUSIC] Paul Simon
I didn't watch because I'm not a fan of Paul Simon. I'm assuming he did a good job.
[WEEKEND UPDATE] With Tina Fey & Jimmy Fallon
Weekend Update was great as always. The Hugh Fink part was okay, but not great. Jimmy kind of screwed it up, but then he adlibbed perfectly. "Oh, we're doing the show LIVE this week?!?" The Weekend Update is really bringing up the ratings of these shows!
RATING : 8/10
[SKETCH] Mr. Peepers : Bedtime Stories
Christ, SNL should drop the Mr. Peepers thing. It's getting too old. Chris Kattan was funny though...and once again, the host had to take some clothing off. Is she starring in some porno movie and she's trying to promote it?
RATING : 3/10
[SKETCH] A Glimpse of our Possible Future : Ralph Nader
This caught me completely off guard! I didn't even think about SNL doing a Ralph Nader impression for this segment. It was very funny to see the flying pigs, and the frozen devils. A bit short though, but I'm glad they didn't drag this out...
RATING : 5/10
[SKETCH] Dancing Brothers try out for Paul Simon
This segment was funny for the Britney Spears episode, and pretty funny for Paul Simon too. Not great though, just one of those end of the show fillers.
RATING : 4/10
[COMMERCIAL] Robert Goulet
In my opinion, this was the funniest sketch of the night. I thought Will was hilarious as Goulet, and I loved how he sang the rap songs. I don't know what it was, but it just made me crack up!
RATING : 8.5/10
[MUSIC] Paul Simon
I didn't listen to this, so I wouldn't know...
[SKETCH] Perverted Spanish Singers
I loved Will Ferrell's translations of the singer's Spanish. I suppose this was ok, but not great. Once again, containing the host and sex related content. What ever happened to good, clean comedy?
RATING : 3.5/10
Sketch of the night : Robert Goulet Commercial
Quote of the night : Will Ferrell as George W. Bush "Well America, I broke Hoover Dam..."
OVERALL EPISODE RATING : 55/100
I expected poor, and I recieved poor. Molly Shannon has no right to be in this cast, and she ruins all the sketches she's in. For the love of god, don't show a Mary Katherine Gallagher sketch, I'll shoot myself. I don't know how much longer I can wait until a Celebrity Jeopardy sketch comes on...I'm getting impatient!
