Dana Carvey / Wallflowers

This show had a lot of hype, and I have to admit, I was really looking forward to it. I knew for sure they'd have to use Carvey's George Bush, and I was hoping they'd bring back one of his recurring characters. Both happened. However, I have to say that I was expecting more...

[COLD OPENING] Third Presidential Debate

Yeah I pretty much knew they'd do this. I loved the questions from the audience, especially the "are you a US citizen?" one. However, it wasn't nearly as funny as the debate on the season premiere. I'm glad these debates are over.

RATING : 7/10

[MONOLOGUE] Dana Carvey

It's great to have a comedian hosting the show so we can get some stand-up in the monologue. I loved Carvey's Bush Jr. faces. He could play both George and George W. easily.

RATING : 7/10

[COMMERCIAL] Magic Mouth

Oh great, bathroom humor. However, this was surprisingly funny. Will Ferrell was perfect for the part of the doctor. "The Magic Mouth fits firmly into the cheeks of the buttocks". I loved the phrases that the device gave out as well.

RATING : 7/10

[SKETCH] NPR Delicious Dish

I never liked these NPR sketches, and I probably never will. I don't think Molly Shannon should be on the show. She ruins all the sketches. Ana and Dana were great, and this provided some comic relief.

RATING : 8/10

[SKETCH] Church Chat

This is one of those recurring sketches that gets funnier with age. This was, by far, the funniest sketch of the night and of the season. Kattan was HILARIOUS as Anne Heche, and I loved how Carvey made fun of Hillary Clinton. The Eminem bit at the end ruined a perfect sketch though. The Church Lady's "Anne Heche food comparison" was hilarious as well.

RATING : 9.5/10

[SKETCH] Bush Father and Son Hunting

I didn't really like this at all. There weren't enough jokes. However, since the sketch had George Bush in it, I have to bring the rating up a BIT...

RATING : 5.5/10

[CAMEO] Baha Men perform "Who Let The Dogs Out"

Where did this come from?!? Oh well, doesn't matter, because I still like this song. It was a good plan not to schedule them as a full musical guest seeing how they only have one song.

[WEEKEND UPDATE] With Jimmy Fallon & Tina Fey

Once again, the Weekend Update shone. Fey and Fallon are perfect for the part. Weekend Update is once again my favorite part of the show. I was really surprised that de Niro actually made an appearance. I expected one of Darrell Hammond's famous impressions. It looked like Jimmy was really surprised to see him come out. Keep it up!

RATING : 9/10

[MUSIC] Wallflowers perform "Sleepwalker"

This was pretty good. It's nice to get a band who performs music using instruments, and a lead singer who didn't have seizures and wasn't on crack. Pretty good song, I liked it!

[SKETCH] VH1 Fashion Awards

SNL usually makes very crappy award show parodies, and this was no different. However, the impressions of the guests were awesome! Maya Rudolph's Macy Gray impression had me pissing myself, and Rachel Dratch as Sting's backup singer was quite comical. I'd love to see more impressions like this.

RATING : 7/10

[SKETCH] Chicken Pet Store

This continues the run of one non-funny sketch per episode. This was very, VERY stupid. However, I gave it an extra point because of Horatio Sanz's impression of a Chinese person. It was very funny.

RATING : 1.5/10

[MUSIC] Wallflowers perform " "

This song wasn't great, but what else can you expect at the end of the show?

Sketch of the night : Church Chat

Quote of the night : Dana Carvey as Church Lady "A bisexual is a person who reaches down the front of somebody's pants and are satisfied with whatever they find."

    OVERALL EPISODE RATING : 68/100

I got a little bit less than what I expected. Oh well, it was a pretty good show anyway. I'm really impressed with the Weekend Update this season. It was starting to fail, but they revived it and now it's back and better than ever. Hopefully we'll get a Celebrity Jeopardy soon!
