Well last season's Christopher Walken episode was one of the best of the season, with two of my all time favorite sketches included. I had my hopes high, and I was looking for a big show. Let's end this season with a bang.
[COLD OPENING] Rudolph Guiliani Address
Well, I suppose this wasn't that bad. It was good to see SNL poking some more fun at the NYC mayor. Darrell's impression of Guiliani is pretty accurate and funny.
RATING : 7/10
[MONOLOGUE] Christopher Walken
Well I find this singing monologues pretty corny, but it was pretty funny when Christopher explained "Well, they're both spelled the same on the cue cards!" Meh, I wasn't expecting too much from the monologue anyway.
RATING : 7.5/10
[SKETCH] Mango
Well, the Mango sketches are usually good for some laughs, but I really didn't find this one too funny. Christopher Walken was great with his serious humor, as always.
RATING : 7.5/10
[SKETCH] Hardball
Well I don't completely think SNL has gone overboard with the Chris Matthews parody, but the Hardball sketches just aren't as funny as they were at the beginning of the season. I'm still not that concerned though, because hey, this was still pretty damn funny. Chris making fun of Paul Bagala is always the highlight of this sketch.
RATING : 8.5/10
[SKETCH] The Continental
I fully expected this sketch, which is Christopher Walken's recurring SNL character. However, I have never found this sketch even slightly funny, and tonight was no exception.
RATING : 4/10
[WEEKEND UPDATE] With Jimmy Fallon & Tina Fey
Clearly, this was Weekend Update's time to shine. This was, undoubtedly, the funniest Weekend Update of the season. I already had full intentions on giving this a perfect 10, and then Kevin Nealon came out with his "Mr. Subliminal", which happens to be one of my favorite SNL characters ever. This really topped off the segment, and if I could give a higher score than 10, I would.
RATING : 10/10
[MUSIC] Weezer
Well I'm not really a huge Weezer fan, nor do I really like the song, but I watched regardless. It sure was nice to have a modern rock band on for a change!
[SKETCH] The Lovahs
Well this was a recurring sketch that I hoped wouldn't' reoccur. Almost exactly the same as the one earlier this season, they only part which was slightly humorous was when Will hurt his back at the very end. Other than that, this was just extremely boring and a waste of time.
RATING : 3/10
[CARTOONS] Anatominals
Awwww Jesus, this was just disgusting. While still gross, I found this pretty funny anyway. The Lorne Michaels part at the end topped off the cartoon. I funny cartoon from Smigel to end the season.
RATING : 7.5/10
[SKETCH] The Centaur
Now this is the type of comedy I enjoy from SNL. Christopher Walken was near perfect with his serious humor, and I guess what really made it funny was how ridiculous the idea was. I got some good laughs from this sketch, good job!
RATING : 9/10
[SKETCH] What Crawled Up His Ass?
Another wacky idea turned into a pretty funny sketch. Will was the perfect person to cast as the sufferer, and once again, Christopher Walken was excellent as the doctor. Pretty good sketch, good for a laugh.
RATING : 7.5/10
[MUSIC] Weezer
After being fairly impressed with their first song, I decided to watch this one too. What the hell, why not? Odd too see Will playing with the band, but whatever floats them. Good song to wind down the show, and the season.
[SKETCH] Return of the Season's Greetings Quartet
Well, I certainly wasn't expecting this! For some reason, when these guys sang their song at Christmas time, I found it really funny, and again, it was funny now. I guess this was a great way to end the season.
RATING : 7.5/10
Sketch of the night : The Centaur
Quote of the night : Chris Parnell as The Centaur "Well, would you have sex with a monkey if it had a mask on?" Christopher Walken and the interviewer "This interview is not about me."
OVERALL EPISODE RATING : 72/100
Although not nearly the best episode of the season, I was pretty impressed by this episode. The host and musical guest were perfect for a season finale. I really enjoyed the 26th season of Saturday Night Live, and I'm looking forward to next year. Hopefully there won't be too many cast changes...
