Well Alec has had some hosting experience, and I knew that would be great in this episode. Also with the few weeks off beforehand, and the US Spy Plane incident, I figured I'd be in for some great comedy.
[COLD OPENING] George W. Bush Presidential Address
This was just the typical Bush opening. I loved how he got ripped off with negotiating with China. "Under no circumstances will there be photocopies of photocopies of photocopies!" Good way to start the show!
RATING : 9/10
[MONOLOGUE] Alec Baldwin
Heh, any excuse to use Darrell's Clinton impression is a good one. His impression is always dead-on, and that's great! Rest of it wasn't that great, average monologue.
RATING : 6.5/10
[COMMERCIAL] Reliable Investments
Great idea!! Hilarious!!
RATING : 9/10
[SKETCH] NPR Delicious Dish
As soon as the theme song started playing I knew for SURE that it would be a "Pete Schweddy" sketch. And I wasn't disappointed at all! I liked this one even better than the one a few years back. Rachel Dratch did a good job as the new host, replacing Molly Shannon. Ana's slipup was probably the highlight of the sketch, and she adlibbed perfectly. Perfect sketch.
RATING : 10/10
[SKETCH] U.S. Troops In China
In my opinion, Alec wasn't that great in this sketch, but I loved Will's sarcasm! "The Chinese? There's a billion of 'em!" But Alec's description of Chinese people at the end was quite humorous. Pretty great sketch!
RATING : 8.5/10
[SKETCH] Inside The Actor's Studio
I guess I'm too young to know who this guy is, but the James Lipton impression was so funny that it gave this sketch a great rating. I loved his new word, "Scrumtrulecent!". Very funny!
RATING : 8.5/10
[WEEKEND UPDATE] With Tina Fey & Jimmy Fallon
Alright. The jokes were hilarious, and Tina Fey's rant was spectacular, but the Tracy Morgan bit ruined the whole thing. That's why this is getting a 9.5 and not a 10.
RATING : 9.5/10
[MUSIC] Coldplay
This isn't all that great of a tune to begin with, and it's even worse live. I flipped it off halfway through.
[SKETCH] Red Ships of Spain
How the hell did they come up with this? Meh, who cares, it was great! The comments left by the critics had me rolling. Excellent!
RATING : 8.5/10
[SKETCH] Democratic Response to Bush Tax Cut
Whistling Jesus, this was great too! Darrell and Chris did great impressions as the presenters, and the whole idea in general was great. It was even better when the used sex to describe the tax cut, absolutely hilarious!
RATING : 8.5/10
[SKETCH] Lasting Impressions Photography
Once again, a wacky idea turned into something much more. Just the way this was acted out made it so funny. "And for 14 extra dollars, you can put a rose on top of the Brandy Snifter!" "Yeah, I can DO DAT!" Great sketch to end the show!
RATING : 8/10
[MUSIC] Coldplay
I didn't bother watching.
Sketch of the night : NPR Delicious Dish
Quote of the night : Alec Baldwin as Pete Schweddy "There's nothing quite like the look on a child's face when he gets a hold of his own Schweddy Weiner."
OVERALL EPISODE RATING : 86/100
Wow, I'm speechless. I didn't even imagine that an episode could get such a high rating, but I guess it was because there were less sketches than normal, so less sketches to bring down the average. Anyway, this episode was great nonetheless, and I was really blown away. This was some great comedy. However, I'm not too sure about next week, I'm kinda leery of the host/guest lineup. But I suppose only time will tell.
