Katie Holmes / Dave Matthews Band

I was very disappointed when I found out who was hosting, and I expected very little of this show. It was the third live show in a row, and the host was from "Dawson's Creek". Oh well, I thought, I'd have to sit it out. Maybe I'd be in for a surprise...

[COLD OPENING] Clinton Family Address

I was wondering when SNL would really get a chance to blast the pardons, and this was the time. This was a pretty funny cold opening I guess, because Darrell's Clinton was perfect and hilarious, as always. This was a good way to start the show, but I was hoping that there would be a lot better sketches to come.

RATING : 8/10

[MONOLOGUE] Katie Holmes

I wasn't really sure what to expect from the monologue until Will came out. "Did someone say TAP?" Ha ha ha I was hoping that the show would be full of this sort of humor. I don't know why, but I found this monologue pretty funny, and a great ending, of course.

RATING : 8/10

[SKETCH] Dawson's Creek

Mr. Peepers....funny as ever! I don't watch Dawson's Creek, so I didn't know who any of the characters were supposed to be, but Chris Kattan jumping around and breaking things is always funny, no matter what the occasion. Chris's expression when Katie Holmes said that she liked Peeper's eyes was priceless. Good job!

RATING : 8.5/10

[SKETCH] Barrymore/Green Estate Burns Down

I saw this on the news earlier this week, and I thought it would make a great SNL sketch. I guess the writers had the same thoughts I did. Jimmy Fallon's Tom Green impression was hilarious! Probably his best impression, better than the Dennis Miller. Every action was dead on. Katie Holmes' Drew Barrymore was probably the best of the season. This was a very funny sketch, but much too short!

RATING : 9.5/10

[CARTOON] Backstreet Boys

I never know if I can trust these Smigel cartoons, but this one was great! I hate the Backstreet Boys with a burning passion, and this was a great way to show how much they suck. However, this would have been a lot funnier two years ago.

RATING : 8/10

[SKETCH] The Lovahs

Jeez, I can see this being a recurring sketch. It wasn't really that funny, until the end when Will sat down and hurt his back. "Are you deaf?!? MY BACK! Get the hell off me!" Good ending, but that's about it.

RATING : 4.5/10

[MUSIC] Dave Matthews Band

I'm not too crazy about this song, but it sounded pretty good live. This was one of the better performances of the season.

[WEEKEND UPDATE] With Tina Fey & Jimmy Fallon

Jesus Christ sweet whistling god this was hilarious! The Clinton Pardon/Dukes of Hazard joke was the best one of the season. In fact, almost every joke was hilarious! And the end with Sanz and Parnell as Elton John and Eminem topped the whole thing. Best Weekend Update of the season!

RATING : 10/10

[SKETCH] Jarret's Room

I knew they'd bring this back eventually... Jimmy Fallon's usually funny, but he's not in this. The only funny part, once again, was when Chris Parnell came in with the mesh tank top and the Billy Joel quotes. Horatio's character was pretty decent, but got old quickly.

RATING : 4/10

[SKETCH] Tough As Nails

I honestly don't know what it was about this sketch, but I laughed through the entire sketch! Will's reaction to the squeezing was hilarious. I loved how Chris Parnell kept encouraging Katie Holmes to "squeeze harder", "don't stop until you hear a crunch", and "twist them a bit". Funny ending too, when Will has in desperate need of some sewing.

RATING : 9/10

[MUSIC] Dave Matthews Band

I didn't watch this because I didn't like the song.

[SKETCH] Passive Aggressive Pam

This was just plain odd. Pam's comments were pretty funny, and I loved how the barbershop singers came in every once and a while and sang a ditty. Odd, but funny!

RATING : 6/10

[SKETCH] Cruise Ship Bar

This was just about as bad as the Airport Bar sketch. Nothing funny in this at all.

RATING : 0.5/10

Sketch of the night : Barrymore/Green Estate Burns Down

Quote of the night : Jimmy Fallon as Tom Green "My bum is on fire, my bum is on fire! I am not a liar, my bum is on fire!"

    OVERALL EPISODE RATING : 69/100

I was pleasantly surprised! They managed to take this show to very good heights, especially since it was the third live show in three weeks. Now with one week off and a great host for the next episode, things are really looking up!
